The product itself is good and I feel safe with it, but Norton customer support is terrible.

I have many sites where I must login and this experience was the worst ever. I cannot see what I type, my fingers bounce typing 2 characters at once or the wrong one. I cannot see my errors, only****. Security Captcha pictures too hard to see cars, etc. An alternate security puzzle was 9 blocks in a grid. Identify the 2 with matching icons--pictures were so bad I never could identify them. Nothing to me looked like an icon, just vague shapes and visual noise.
Multiple login steps, then do again because it's incorrect. To change password: type current password, type new password, retype new password, do the captha picture thing, security approval has expired, type password, password is approved, now type password, do the security captha again, then maybe I'm approved to log in--but I probably messed up someplace in all that because remember YOU CAN'T SEE THE PASSWORD to locate the errors.
Once installed, there are ubiquitous maddening Norton popup ads to sell more or install more Norton products. I rate customer service a zero whether it's a bot or person. Norton is designed to never deal with customers.
One month before my old one expired Norton autorenew took payment without my approval. To me, that's unethical. It would be reasonable if it were to renew day when it's time to renew.
So why did I again buy Norton? I think it's a good security product. I'm confident that it's doing its job.
I did the chat because I wanted to find out if there is a way to allow me to view the password. The real person never gave me an answer that it can or cannot be done. He/she wanted to take remote access of my computer. No way! He said he was sure it was a hardware problem. Nooooo it's that Norton doesn't give us an option to see the password. He said I should uninstall and reinstall Norton. He said he would help me change my password. The password was not the problem. That particular problem was YOU CAN'T SEE THE PASSWORD to locate the errors! The human either had no clue what to do or didn't read what I wrote. Quite a surprise, but suddenly our chat ran into a technical problem, and ended. I don't envy their jobs and there would be a huge amount to learn. May God bless them all. I can assure them if they trust in Jesus they will go to heaven and NEVER be assigned to a Norton support team.

Works GREAT! Big money saver!

I did need to put the subscription code in a couple times but it did accept it. Note, I still had a week remaining on my old subscription and it came up with a message saying that those days would not be added to my new subscription. I did need to reset my Samsung mobile but it retained all passwords and settings. Very minimal setup and comparted to the standard $150 renewal fee it's a huge bargain! You may need to setup additional devices. Also, this is for auto renewal so long before renewal go in and cancel auto renewal or your credit card will be charged the full amount in 11 months. I plan to do this in a few days to make certain the product and account info is fully updated and stable. I've been using Norton for 25 years!

Amazon should be ashamed carrying this product. I started using Norton back in the 80s when it was Norton utilities. I saw the best seller when I was looking at antiviruses and clicked it. The problems started when I tried to install it on my Windows 11 laptop. it did not install correctly, and it took their tech support more than an hour to get it to where it worked. That should’ve been a red flag warning. it started interfering with regular computer operations and programs and tech-support provided no help whatsoever and come to find out in order to remove it. I need to download another program to remove and reinstall except that you have to with that program once you remove it, it will automatically reinstall unless you go in and tinker with it to tell it not to reinstall. A nightmare experience that’s not over yet because it automatically renews itself each year. I did not install this when I first bought it and I am now beyond the 30 day return window. I will be checking with them to see what if anything I can do. If you’re feeling adventurous and decide to try it I would recommend that you do it quickly so that when you try to return it, you’re within that 30 day window. I would not have rated it with any stars except that in order to leave this review you have to give it some rating.

Still a good -- but marketing oriented -- product, but was even better before

This had already started before they merged with the Czech company Avast, but the up-selling focus kicked into high gear at that point, and the nice old Norton 360 interface was replaced with one that is similar to the paid version of Avast's product. But -- definitely on the plus side -- it appears 360 has kept 'Original' Norton's industry-leading 'Smart Firewall,' which is powerful and unobtrusive, but does not require any user intervention (unless you're into that sort of thing, in which case there are plenty of options for adjustments).
The app is sometimes sort of buggy, but the bugs are largely related to minor settings-interface options that the average user won't even see. E.g., sometimes the security history can get overloaded with repetitive entries; or you might be told to save your settings even though -- as of this writing -- 360 doesn't even offer a way to do that. But a lot of those kinks are being addressed little by little with the product updates (which are installed automatically).
While you do have to have a credit card on file to use 360, if desired you can make sure auto-renew is turned off for your account in the website. (I did so, and that's why, as shown in the pic, it gives me an option to enable auto-renewal.) Then continue to buy it far cheaper on Amazon or elsewhere each year, and activate via the Product Key provided when you purchase. (Hint: If you do it this way, you will lose any days left on the prior key after you enter a new one, so have it on hand but don't enter it until shortly before your current subscription is near expiration. You can see how many days are left in the current subscription -- that's what they call it even if auto-renewal is turned off -- by clicking on the account symbol near the top right, even if you're not signed into your account.) You do lose a feature or two by not using auto-renewal, but they are ones I don't want, anyway (I think cloud backup may be one).
As for the marketing push, this can be via popups, bloatware features (steer clear of SmartScan!), email, or messages in Settings. E.g, in Settings I have a warning (big exclamation point in orange circle) that says 'Privacy Monitor is not Activated' But if you do enable it, you'll find out it will cost another $110. A couple things that help alleviate the marketing popups include (1) Going to Settings -> Notifications tab -> Ensure 'Send me promotional notifications' is turned off. (I also turn off 'send me non-critical app activity alerts.'); and, (2) when you do get any marketing popups in the system tray, look for a 3-dot menu in the corner where you can sometimes choose options to silence that kind of notification. In fact, my 360 has been quite unobtrusive lately, and it doesn't seem to affect system performance, except in a few infrequent cases.
EDIT Nov 25, 2525: As of late, the promotional popups have started to become more obtrusive, including some large ones in the middle of the screen. This is despite my disabling promotional notifications in settings. Maybe it's just a holiday sales push, but if the trend continues I'm going to lower my rating to 3 stars.

Positives far outweigh the negatives

I do a ton of web surfing, visiting many different types of sites -- including some that use sketchy pop-ups, click-baiting, etc. -- and I've never gotten a virus. Not once.
Norton has done an excellent job of keeping my electronic devices safe, which is exactly what it's supposed to do. And with their products regularly offered on Amazon at heavily discounted prices, my wallet is almost as happy as my computer. Is it perfect? Nope -- no software is. But the positives have always outweighed the negatives.
I always find myself chuckling and rolling my eyes at the numerous one-star reviews that are invariably piled onto products like this. A few folks have legitimate complaints (though rarely serious enough to support their knee-jerk single star ratings), but the majority of them are unjustified rants. They usually boil down to:
'I can't get this to load/work on my computer.' I've never run into this problem, having downloaded it to numerous devices. I'm guessing you're doing something wrong. And if you aren't, I regularly see Norton reps monitoring the reviews and reaching out immediately to help.
'Norton is forcing me to sign up for their ridiculous auto-renewal.' Yes, it is annoying, and the auto-renewal prices have always been outrageous. But here's a super-secret hint, folks: you can turn off auto-renewal as soon as you finish registering the product! Just go to your Norton account and click (or double-click if necessary) the toggle switch to turn auto-renewal off. It will beg and plead with you not to...but stay strong, you will get through it. And then it's done. Problem solved.
'I don't want to give them my credit card information.' I'll never understand why some people think this is such a big deal. You've already given Amazon your credit card info, so clearly you have no problem with it being electronically transmitted to a soulless mega-corporation. So what, then? You think Norton is going to use it to buy a private island in the south Pacific? You're going to turn off auto-renewal (see above), so you aren't going to be charged for anything. Having to enter the number is a minor irritant at worst. If it's just a matter of principle for you, fine, then don't use their software...but giving it a one-star rating for that reason alone is laughable.
'It sux' (or some equally eloquent variation thereof). Wow, super helpful feedback there. Which other antivirus software do you prefer, and why? I'm certainly open to considering other options. But I've actually tried other products, and I've usually ended up regretting it for one reason or another. Norton has yet to disappoint me in any significant way.
OK, enough of my own rant. If you want good antivirus protection at a good price and have even minimal computer skills, Norton 360 fits the bill.

Cancel Auto Renewal After Purchase

I use Norton on my computer as well as for two cell phones, so I choose the multiple device version. I have noticed a huge increase in pop-ups from Norton on my computer since I installed it this past year (2022-2023). These pop-ups are usually information pertaining to my Norton subscription, such as software I have installed that might be slowing down my computer, or a notice about a company's data breach that might affect me. These pop-ups are similar to the pop-up ads you get by going to certain websites and I find the Norton pop-ups to be just as annoying as the ads. I spend most of the time closing the pop-ups, because they continually appear throughout the time I am using my computer. They appear without warning, and if I am doing anything of importance, the pop-ups appear right on top of everything and have to be closed out. Sometimes, these pop-ups slow down my computer or interfere with other software that is running when they appear. I have not been able to find a feature on Norton to turn these annoying pop-ups off.
Norton also has the subscription auto-renewal feature built into their newer software. This used to be optional and you could buy Norton for one year without auto-renewal. Now that auto-renewal is required, I make my Norton purchase and go through the process to cancel auto-renewal as soon as possible after purchase:
1. Log into the Norton website and hover over 'My Account' in the upper right hand corner.
2. A drop-down menu will appear. Click on 'My Subscriptions.'
3. Your most recent Norton subscription will appear at the top of the screen. Under the title of your Norton product, there is a selection that says 'Manage Renewal.'
4. Click on 'Manage Renewal' and select the option to 'Cancel Renewal.'
5. When you click on 'Cancel Renewal,' the next page will ask you why you are unsubscribing and give you a list of options. Choose your reason for cancelling and click Next to the right of the page.
6. Norton will usually provide a couple of options to try and keep you on the auto-renewal. Note that if you choose these options, your auto-renewal will stay active.
7. Select 'Unsubscribe.' A confirmation email will be sent to your e-mail address on file.
8. You will be taken back to 'My Subscriptions.' There is a selection of tabs on the 'My Subscriptions' page that includes 'Billing Information.' When you select this tab, it will show you the billing information that you entered when you signed up for auto-renewal. Click on the option to delete the billing information on file.
9. If you used PayPal as the billing option for auto-renewal, you will also need to go to the Paypal website and manage automatic billing options to remove Norton from the list of subscriptions on auto-pay.
I perform this process every year, because Norton has surprise charged me in the past. Last year, I performed this process, but I failed to delete the billing information on file with Norton. I was sent a receipt by email saying that Norton had charged my account $113 to renew my subscription over a month BEFORE my subscription was set to expire. I was given no warning that this charge was coming, and there was no notice given as to why it was renewed so much earlier than it needed to be. I attempted to contest this charge, but I was given a response from Norton and my account holder stating that because I was on Norton's auto-renewal program, it was a 'pre-approved' and valid charge. I will NEVER use Norton's auto-renewal plan after this incident.
When it comes to downloading Norton, there is an option to download Norton directly from their site (best for computers), have the download link sent to your email or text the link to your cell phone. Norton is easiest to update if you have the app downloaded on your phone. Open the app and the Norton menu will give you the option to 'Renew My Subscription.' When you click on 'Renew,' there is an option to purchase a subscription, or to redeem a subscription. If you have already paid for a subscription, you can click on 'Redeem a Subscription' and enter the Norton product key that you were given when you purchased the software. The key is fairly long, but once you have entered it, the app will update itself automatically or show you a menu option where you can choose the correct subscription. This is the easiest way I have found to update Norton on my cell phone. When I try the download email link or text link, I cannot get it to renew itself properly. One of the cell phones that I use Norton on is a slightly older version of Android and the only way to get Norton to work on it is to manually enter the product key on the app, because the links will not work.

Product did not work in Singapore

I contacted Norton Support and they told me i could not use the product in Singapore but was designed for US market. I bought this from Amazon.sg. So how can it not work in Singapore. The product description only said the features around Dark Web Monitoring will not work outside of US. It did not say the whole product will not work outside US. After many hours of working with Norton Support, they provided me with a different Norton product key. They even mentioned not to buy Norton products outside of Norton websites (which includes Amazon) and i think that is not the right approach. Very disappointed that i had to spend so much time troubleshooting and working with Norton support to get it working.
