    Great Performance Feature Packed Everyday Use Laptop
    PRODUCT Acer Aspire 16 AI Copilot+ PC REVIEW I am very impressed. The Acer Aspire 16 AI, will likely become my daily 'couch' driver computer, which I use for a few hours each night while watching TV and doing some work in the evening as well as taking it with me on the go for travel and photography. It weighs less and last longer. The computer is zippy in performance. The screen is clear and bright. The keyboard is backlit, and it is also a touch screen. The battery lasts about 15 hours, perfect for grabbing it and heading out without power cords. It also has a (small) numeric keypad. I was not sure what to expect with an 'ARM' (Reduced Instruction Set Computing (RISC) architecture) powered CPU instead of an x86 (Complex Instruction Set Computing (CISC) architectures) powered CPU. If you don't know what all that is, don't worry about it. The main thing you need to know is that this laptop runs Windows 11, and it runs it very well. In general ARM means it runs smaller (simple) instructions very quickly instead of larger but slower complex operations. It is all behind the scenes (windows handles it), so you you generally don't have to think about it. I hesitate to call this an entry level computer. It actually performs more like a mid-grade computer costing more, making it a great value. It easily handles everything I tossed at it. It is not for heavy gaming, but for everything else it pretty zippy. PROS - 16GB RAM (4X more than most in this class) - 512GB Storage (4x more than most in this class) - Bright / Large Screen with a good resolution - HD Camera - USB 4 Ports (a huge plus for speed of connecting external devices) USB 4 means that I can use this for my photography hobby, by connecting fast external drives to the laptop for increased and quick storage. USB 4 is 8 times (8X) faster than USB 3 ports. This allows me to move large files from my camera to a drive in seconds instead of minutes. The build quality is very good, especially in this range of computer. Nothing feels cheap. It has been a while since I've owned an ACER computer and now I remember how much I liked my previous one. ACER packs a lot of features, functionality, and value into their devices. RECOMMENDATION I definitely recommend this for mid range performance at entry level costs.

      4.0 out of 5 stars A solid general purpose laptop
      Reviewed in the United States on September 10, 2025
      Amazon Vine Customer Review of Free Product( What's this? )
      This is long, so the TLDR is that it's a good laptop if you are using it like a laptop and aren't hoping to turn AI flips. As a travel or school computer, I think you would be very happy with it. If you care for more detail, read on...

      ==== First Impressions ====

      The laptop is sleek, lightweight, and has a large nice screen. I am usually not one for lighting effects, but the white glow off the side of the keys actually looks really nice.

      It's been about 10 years since I last bought a laptop. One of the things that immediately struck me was the size of the trackpad. It's massive! Maybe that's how things are now, but the freedom of movement compared to my last laptop is great. But, there were no trackpad buttons on it so doing a right-click was a mystery at first (tap with two fingers to right click). Once figured out, it's nice.

      Although, scrolling is still an issue. It's just more awkward.

      Initial setup was smooth but irritating. There is no ethernet port so WiFi is REQUIRED to even boot up the first time. No ethernet port is nonsensical, so instead of being in my office I have to sit in the kitchen to use it.

      You also have to log in with a Microsoft account, to make sure they can track every single thing you do. This is more of a Microsoft issue than specific to the laptop, but that's the OS it's running so it counts.

      Lastly, the setup process is loaded with stuff to spy on you. Most of it wants you to agree, but not all. It was one question after another of can we monitor your browsing habits, can we upload your private data to our servers, and on and on. At this point, you have to expect some of this nonsense, but this went to the point of feeling like a strip search.

      Again, most of this was Microsoft, though some was Acer.

      Aside from that, it didn't take too long and there were no issues.

      ==== Speed ====

      It seems zippy for general use. Most of my laptop use is for web browsing, e-mail, and web-based apps. For that it's plenty fast and there was no real difference between it and my powerful desktop system.

      ==== AI Features ====

      I found these to be gimmicky. It's all flash and sounds impressive, but none of it was actually useful. The closest would be image classification and search based off of a description, but most people will not be storing their family's photo album on a laptop that may get lost or stolen. If you do, cool feature. But, even for the most photo-enthusiastic, I can't see using that more than once a month.

      While it's cool to be able to generate pictures that would be State Of The Art (SOTA) 2 years ago locally off of your own NPU, if you are doing it for anything other than playing around, you will be using something operating at today's capabilities.

      ==== Neural Processing Unit (NPU) ====

      This was what I was really interested in! The marketing around the idea makes it sound like using an NPU could be more powerful than a traditional GPU for running AI models.

      One thing to be aware of out of the gate is that the laptop's Qualcomm Snapdragon processor is an ARM processor. This means that it's running a special version of Windows and won't run just anything (though for super common software it shouldn't be a problem).

      Fortunately, LM Studio has an ARM version just for this, so I was able to get going and set up PHI-4 Thinking without any issues. The response speed was not bad, definitely within an acceptable range, but when I went to check processor usage what I noticed was that the CPU was at 80% and the NPU was at 0%.

      As it turns out, you can't just run an AI model as you normally would. Instead, it has to have been converted from GGUF/llama.cpp that you would typically find as standard to Qualcomm’s vendor specific format (QNN). And that is, most certainly, not a plug and play option.

      Looking at Qualcomm's AI Hub, which is their own central repository for AI models that are ready to run on their special hardware and that they use to promote their ecosystem, there are a lot of models to choose from, but they are not up to date. For example, they have Qwen 2.5 but Qwen 3 has been out for 4 months. Similarly, they only have PHI 3.5 and PHI-4 has been out for 9 months.

      The point being, Qualcomm's Snapdragon and NPU feels like a dead end technology. Even the hardware manufacturer is letting it sit on the vine. This whole NPU thing sounds great, but nobody is using it and the models are limited.

      That said, if you have a need like efficient image recognition, it could still be useful.

      ==== Everything Together ====

      While I think you should totally take out all the AI and NPU hype from your decision, it is a good laptop if you are buying it for a laptop. It is lightweight but still offers a good size keyboard, large screen, great battery life, much better speed than might be expected, and good ergonomics and physical appeal.

      If you are buying this to stay up on e-mail and web-based work while you are traveling or need something for school, this would be a really good fit and I actually have zero complaints (minus the no ethernet port, which irks me).

      I have also not heard any fan noise and only felt slight warmth if I put my hand on the bottom after extended periods of heavy CPU use. My guess is that it is just super efficient so it doesn't generate much heat, while performance is still good. Silence and staying cool is a definite plus.

      So for typical laptop uses, I love it.

      5.0 out of 5 stars Maybe the most reliable laptop ive ever used. Acer aint playing anymore...

      Amazon Vine Customer Review of Free Product( What's this? )
      this is a surprisingly good little laptop. I was sorta skeptical, although, i had no reason to be. Acer is a known brand, and while I dont necessarily think "top of the line" when i think of Acer, I have never been disappointed with their products either. I can't even say that about Sony, Samsung...heck..none of the huge name brands. Acer has always been solid, and never seems to have a premium price on their products...
      Come to think of it, the best laptop Ive ever owned was an Acer. It was a workhorse and I used it for almost 8 years i think. I ended up replacing it with a Asus that was shipped with a rootkit virus ALREADY INSTALLED at the factory. (You can read the Asus laptops that had this rootkit virus upon shipping with a simple internet search..._) the only reason I'm bringing that up right now, is because even though the laptop was like 8 years old, it let me install Windows 11 on it without a single hiccup. The newer Asus would NOT let me install Windows 11...can you believe that? Acer is a solid product, and i think i should've been paying better attention to what type of laptops i want to use.
      Having said all that, its time to tell you about this laptop. For starters, its really fast..I mean just about every laptop is super fast when you first open it.. but Ive had this for a month and half now and its still really fast. It feels streamlined and well thought out.
      I dont have any issues with it...ever. it has never locked up, it has never lost connection..it has never even shut down without me telling it to. It installs updates in the background, without me even noticing the system slowing down or anything. It just keeps on keeping on. .i am so pleased with it, that, like all computer nerds, I catch myself wondering if the upgraded models, for gaming, would keep the same reliability, while adding all the fun stuff I like to tweak and basically render a reliable laptop, unreliable with over clocking and all of that.
      The weight is not bad. Its not heavy at all, but it feels like its got some heft to it...what i mean is i find myself worrying that i could drop it...not because its heavy but because I envision the nice brushed metal finish getting dinged, scratch, dented etc. that makes me be extra diligent.
      all in all...this feels like a weird thing i'm about to say...but i feel the need to say it:

      I think i love Acer. I think I love this laptop...and thats coming from a former computer technician, with tons of experience hating everything about computers. Acer has given me NOTHING to hate..at all. I am in love with the simplicity and reliability of this laptop and i'm somewhat ashamed Ive never really paid attention to Acer before, as one of those brands that should be considered when purchasing top of the line computers, or maybe even all electronics...
      i recommend this product and happily give it 5 stars. without a doubt, one of the best, smoothest, most reliable laptops i've ever used. ????????‍♂️ way to go acer.

      5.0 out of 5 stars Snapdragon X processor is snappy, battery life is impressive! Limitations - ARM64 not x86

      == Why this laptop over any other? ==

      The battery life is awesome! I love not worrying about when I need to plug it in to charge again or eyeing the battery icon anxiously while it drains lower and lower. The Snapdragon X processor ensures the highest energy efficiency with 18-19 hours of battery life on a single full charge.

      It’s a productivity booster for work or school needs. The AI features help save time, perfect and simplify daily tech drudgery. You have access to Copilot Plus and Asus Intelligent AI at the touch of your fingertips with dedicated buttons on the keyboard for fast access.

      The keyboard is backlit - yay! This is a must-have feature for me. I tend to write a lot at night in the dark or in low light conditions with ambient low lighting, so some shine-through backlit keys are important to me.

      If portability is a concern, no worries, even with the larger 16” screen size, this laptop has an aluminum chassis which is slim and lightweight. It’s not a bulky, hefty thing to haul around to work and school everyday, despite the flabbergasting battery life it boasts!

      It charges via USB-C port (65W), not DC-in, simplifying the charging process and easing the stress of packing for trips as you don’t need to sweat about forgetting the dedicated charging block for this one piece of tech that uses a charging input port that none of your other tech devices use…

      == Why some people may not want to consider the Aspire AI 16”? ==

      What may be a major drawback to this laptop for some is that it runs on Windows 11 on ARM processor architecture, not the ubiquitous Windows x86. For some pros and cons between the two, ARM is more energy/power efficient whereas x86 is considered more versatile for software and program compatibility.

      It’s important to consider what programs/apps and games you may regularly use and whether they’re compatible with ARM. For instance, my TorGuard VPN doesn’t offer a native ARM64 app but it can run emulated x64 version.
      It is not the laptop to get if you want it for gaming.

      RAM and storage capacity are non-upgradeable.
      Whatever version you get (I got the 16GB RAM and 512GB PCIe Gen 4 SSD) is what you’re stuck with. You can’t boost the performance by buying and installing another RAM stick down the line.

      Better err on the side of caution and opt for higher RAM and storage or look into a laptop that doesn’t restrict user upgrades if your budget doesn’t allow for it right now, but you want the option to upgrade in the future when you’ve been able to save for more RAM/storage.

      == Other Aspects ==

      SPEAKERS – Are pretty good for laptop speakers. I don’t actually use mine very often, whether I’m at home or out in the world I tend to use my Bluetooth earbuds or my Bose Bluetooth speaker for out-loud sound. Or, alternatively, there’s also the 3.5mm AUX-in headphone jack on the right side of the laptop for plugging in wired headphones so you can listen to your hearts content without being a nuisance to others in public.

      KEYBOARD – layout and tactility go, the keys feel nice, the layout is full-size with a numpad on the right and somewhat squashed arrow keys. It takes some adjustment to avoid mistypes.

      The trackpad is large and spacious with good tactility for presses and taps, and responsive swipe and finger gestures.

      DISPLAY – Screen has an anti-reflective coating so it is crisp and non-strain inducing for my eyes, although the contrast is not as high as OLED screens. It has a 120Hz refresh rate, so video quality is smooth. I’m happy with the screen clarity, although the brightness could be a bit better (only 350 nits).

      I’ll admit I’ve never had a laptop with an OLED screen before so maybe it would be hard to “downgrade” if you appreciate OLED and are willing to pay more for the difference.

      WEBCAM – Stands out as the highest resolution built-in camera compared to my past laptops. 2560x1440 and 30FPS with a privacy shutter (which I appreciate so much!)

      Overall? This has become my primary laptop for everything. It’s superior to my older Acer laptop. I do wish it came with less bloatware but for tech-inclined folks, you’ll know how to strip out what you don’t need or do a fresh Windows install if that’s your preference so you can curate the programs you wish to be installed on it starting from a bare bones minimum.

      This laptop is a sleek machine for multimedia or even productivity tasks as it balances multi core SoC efficiency of an integrated Snapdragon X CPU and vivid 16" LCD screen. Design of the laptop is slim and feels lightweight enough to lug around while traveling. When it comes to durability however, screen flex was minimal being an outer titanium shell and this extends around the laptop chassis. Keyboard deck makes typing on this laptop feel mostly comfortable using ergonomically shaped island style key caps and metallic palm rests. At night the keyboard can also illuminate with auto backlit effect making spotting buttons easier. Bezels are slim but top bar has wide angle 1080p webcam with a thoughtful slide over cover. Storage capacity felt somewhat basic at 512GB using NVMe PCI-E but the SSD is soldered directly onto motherboard which misses on upgradability.

      One drawback to consider is this laptop isn't x86 chipset, relying on an ARM based Oryon CPU which despite being 8 core limits compatibility for running apps. Processor also clocks around 0.8GHz of frequency on idle which felt great for power efficiency to extend battery. Once CPU turbo ramps up, frequency was closer to 2.2GHz consistently with 4 cores of usage and 3GHz at peak CPU performance. Initially this laptop did feel towards sluggish end, having slight lag for toggling between apps and slower to boot up. After setting up and adjusting performance modes, the CPU can be optimized creating a snappier feel. Integrated NPU is also basic enough to run AI workloads for computer vision or even smaller models for Copilot acceleration. Onboard is 16GB of LPDDR5X memory which is great for multi tasking but as the GPU plus NPU setup also depends on system ram, it splits capacity to nearly 8GB for running models.

      Where this laptop stood out was the 16" IPS LCD panel managing to output native 1920x1200 resolution. While screen feels crisp, its not particularly high DPI and has some level of noticeable pixelation effect. Touchscreen also has a fluid 120Hz mode and brightness was ample for outdoors but is layered behind matte anti glare coating. Battery runtime lasted for nearly 8 to 10 hours on single charge and plugs into an included 45W adapter for charging up over Type C port. There's also expandability using USB Gen 4 ports, HDMI to drive external 4K monitors and snappy performance to handle streaming or multi tasking. Overall, considering its machined from titanium chassis and a thinner ultrabook shape, this Acer 16" laptop is a lightweight machine for commuting but relies on an ARM based processor.

      4.0 out of 5 stars Great first impression of Windows on ARM in a well designed laptop!

      I have not used a Windows based ARM laptop yet and to be honest I was a bit skeptical as I had heard that Windows on ARM has not been great in the past. I did however hear that they had come a very long way so was curious to check it out for myself. I am pleasantly surprised at how seamless it has been so far, if I didn't know it was ARM I probably would not have picked up on it, at least not for a while. The laptop itself is actually quite nice and has lots to offer for a reasonable price but there are a few things holding me back from giving it a five stat review (not deal breakers but worth talking about).

      So my first and biggest gripe with it is the bloatware, I have not experience this much of it on a laptop before. I understand these partnerships between Acer and these other companies help keep costs down but it felts invasive to me. Just to name a few, the laptop came preinstalled with McAfee, NordVPN, WebAdvisor by McAfee, Dropbox Promotions, a couple web links made to look like apps, the worst one being a pinned bookings.com logo to the task bar, and a ridiculous amount of Acer software. I am personally really not a fan of this kind of stuff as it adds things to my computer that may slow it down or take up space without me potentially knowing about it. I ended up making a Windows 11 ARM image and doing a fresh install after I linked this Windows 11 key to my account.

      A few other things I noticed that are not my favourite, the lack of a finger print reader, USB-C ports only on the left side, and a relatively big power cord considering it is only 65 Watts. The laptop has Windows Hello which works really well and is a great feature. It also includes a physical slider to block the camera, again a really nice feature. However, I need to keep this slider open if I want the ability to quickly sign into my computer, a fingerprint reader would be a nice alternative for logging in. The computer has two USB-C ports which are also used to power the laptop, I am glad they are on the left side so they don't get in the way when I use a mouse but I do wish it had a port on each side to better accommodate any type of setup. For the power cord I was really hoping for a more modern looking brick that plugs directly into the wall with the USB-C cord going directly to the laptop, however its more the traditional style with the detachable (and thick) power cable going into the power supply then from the power supply into the laptop. But, it is USB-C for power and was able to use my own 65W power brick and cable without issues.

      Outside of these, honestly pretty minor, issues, the laptop is actually pretty great. At 16" it is a fairly large laptop but is quite thin and not super heavy for the size. The screen has a 16:10 resolution and can run at 120Hz leaving the overall experience feel more smooth. The slightly larger aspect ratio is great as it gives that much more vertical space to work with. The screen is also a touch screen, has nice colours, and is bright. I actually really enjoy typing on the keyboard, the keys feel nice and responsive. The layout is a little different than I am use to so its taking a little time to adjust but nothing too crazy. It has a small num pad on the side, nice to have it but its size also requires some getting use to. The track pad is decent but I do find my finger has a hard time gliding across it sometimes, especially when trying to drag something. But it is large, has a click feedback when pressed, and works with the known gestures. The speakers, to me, feel pretty lacklustre, they are functional but not super loud and essentially no base. The camera falls in the same boat for me, the image quality is not great but it is functional and I am happy it has one.

      Overall I think this is actually a pretty nice laptop at a reasonable price. I was worried the ARM processor would cause more issues but so far it has not stopped me from doing anything I normally do. I was even able to install Steam and boot up some "not so demanding" games and it simply just worked without any compatibility issues. The bloatware was annoying but a fresh install solved the problem. The other minor issues I pointed out are definitely not deal breakers and only worth mentioning. And as a bonus it included three months to game pass, not sure that will always be the case but was happy to get it!
