Laptop good Amazon NEVER AGAIN

Unlike some budget-friendly laptops, the OmniBook comes with the regular version of Windows11 and not the restrictive S mode. Spend a few minutes and remove/uninstall some of the unnecessary software they pre-installed, this will help clean up the system and lift the performance.
This laptop is ideal for everyday use such as web browsing, office work, streaming, online meetings, and any other general usage. If you’re looking for something geared towards gaming, video editing, CAD or any other heavy tasking, you will need something with much better processor power and memory.
Initial setup was easy and the laptop is responsive and fast for average use. Skip the heavy resource browsers for the lighter ones and you can easily open multiple tabs.
The larger 17.3 inch screen is perfect for reviewing side by side documents. Attach an external monitor to the HDMI port for a much more versatile multitasking setup.
The battery life is quite impressive for a 17 inch screen system, I was able to use it for 8 hours easily I still had battery left. The NVME SSD is up-gradable but unfortunately, the 8GB RAM cannot be upgraded, which for some is a deal breaker.
If you’re in the market for a large screen entry to mid-range laptop, this might just fit the bill for you.

Midrange Performance, Perfect for Work and Home, Large Screen, Long Battery Life, Terrific Price

HP has been a premier provider of electronics for decades. I still use my HP-12C calculator from 1982 and can program it to do anything but cook dinner. HP is gold.
This is a midrange laptop computer where 80% of us belong. It won't dazzle with high-end gaming or fast video rendering. Likewise, it's far more than needed for simple online shopping or reading news. For the 80% of us who browse the Internet, build spreadsheets, type documents and emails, manage vacation photos and handle daily life, this laptop is for you. If you spend more, you might be spending too much; if you spend less, you might be disappointed. With 8GB LPDDR5x RAM (not upgradeable) and 512GB M.2 NVMe PCIe Gen 4 SSD (upgradeable), it's a capable laptop computer. Note that the laptop comes with Windows 11 Home. If you need Windows 11 Pro, like I prefer, you'll need to upgrade. That runs $99 at present.
This HP Omnibook computer includes a charger, charging cable, and brief instruction sheet. Setup took forever because I live on a farm in central Texas. On a good day I have 5G Internet, but there aren't many good days. That's no fault of HP or Microsoft. Eventually, the impressively large laptop downloaded and updated everything and was ready for me to login. I logged into my Microsoft account and the laptop automatically imported settings from my desktop computer. The background and other settings came across nicely.
Like most computers, the Omnibook had some bloatware. 15 minutes in 'Add or Remove Programs' cleaned that up. I also went into 'Startup Apps' and unchecked the things I don't use. With that handled, I installed the software I use daily. Internet service in my area is slow and unreliable so I install MS Office locally instead of Office 365. I also installed Corel Technical Suite, Vegas Pro, VLC, my favorite browser and some utility programs. All of that went perfectly.
The 17' screen is impressively clear at its native resolution of 1080P. Performance stats are easily found online but my subjective view is that the computer performs quite well for my needs. The CPU is optimized to conserve power. Battery life is impressive - everything I listed above was done on a single charge and the computer had plenty of juice at the end. I left it on overnight and saw it had 56% battery next day. It charges quickly. HP did a great job.
My one complaint is that RAM is not upgradeable. I prefer 32GB, especially for Vegas Pro. That would make the computer more expensive, though, and I wanted a budget friendly model, so that's a reasonable tradeoff. I optimized the Windows 11 swapfile to compensate (Initial Size = 12288, Max Size = 24576).
If you're looking for an excellent day-to-day laptop computer for home and/or work with a huge 17' screen and great battery power, this Hewlett-Packard Omnibook is for you. It's a brand that has served me well for decades. I couldn't be happier.

This is not a computer you want.

Please don't buy this. The computer will not work and is not a good value for your money. You will be completely hindered by the speed and ability to do basic functions you would expect from a new computer. I don't own this laptop, but I know a thing or two about computers. HP should be ashamed of themselves for putting this out for people to buy.

Lovely build quality but slow speed

The chassis has a clean visual appeal with a modern look and a spacious display that makes watching videos or scrolling through pages comfortable on the eyes. Unfortunately, it struggles to stay snappy because the standard internal memory is quite limited for modern demands, meaning even a regular web browser with a handful of tabs open can cause things to stutter or lag. It simply does not have enough headroom to keep up with snappy processing when you have multiple background tasks running at once. While it is a nice, solid machine for very basic single tasks or general media consumption on a large panel, it is just not very speedy if you need something responsive for a busy workflow. Unfortunately due to the memory crisis, machines like this bare the brunt.

Good Speed, Large Screen

For its price this is a pretty good laptop if you are wanting something to use for web browsing, email, word processing and the like. It can easily handle small productivity tasks or be used for school or work. It is not a gaming laptop, but could play older games well. Without a higher end GPU, it could not play any of the graphically intense modern games well. It has a nice feel, and seems sturdy and well made. The full keyboard (including numeric keypad) has a good feel when typing. It is not backlighted, so if you type in the dark, you are out of luck. Graphics are very good for the 2K resolution (1920x1080) and good for productivity tasks like document editing, spreadsheets, etc. This particular model does not have a touchscreen.
The cpu is pretty good - better than most low-end laptops, but not as good as a business-class or gaming laptop. The Ryzen 3 30 cpu benchmarks at 9393 (Passmark score), with a single thread rating at 2503. It has 4 cores and 8 threads, and would be good for almost all normal tasks. You won't be doing major video editing or running modeling software, but daily tasks are fine. It also plays video nicely - very crisp and clear.
It has an excellent battery life. You can easily go all day on this without needing a charge - possibly even a second workday, if use is more limited. The description lists 14 hours, and I estimating that to be about right - maybe a tiny bit on the high end with my usage. This is due to the efficiency of the cpu and gpu. More power there means less battery life, so it's a balancing act.
Microsoft has removed the option in Windows 11 Home Edition to setup without WiFi and without a Microsoft account, but you can set it up with one, and then create a local account and delete the MS one if you are worried about privacy. The installed software takes up about 47GB of the 512GB hard drive space, but memory usage is minimal, so the 8GB provided is fine. I install a lot of apps and large software packages and am hoping I can upgrade the M.2 NVME SSD. I understand from searches that you can swap out the drive (don't quote me), but not the memory, as it is soldered onto the board. From first power-up to being able to open a browser and surf the net took me about 1 minute of total setup set-up time in several 10 second increments and 10-15 minutes of waiting around in between and for updates - about average.

It signed me up for McAfee spam without any consent

I knew Windows was getting bad but most other mini PCs and stuff I'd gotten at least had the Pro version. This comes with the consumer version as well as extra HP stuff. It forced me to sign in with my email just to use it. I accidentally (see trackpad notes below) left clicked on the McAfee virus icon and it opened, instead of right-clicking it to uninstall it. Within hours I was getting spam in my personal from that stupid two second mistake. NO consent, NO nothing, it just stole my email from the Microsoft account I was forced to use and started sending me junk mail.
And honestly that was just the start. Constant notifications from Microsoft, from Xbox, from HP. The start menu is full of ads and commercial media. The browser is full of ads and commercial media. All the options are pre-checked to share maximally invasive data with Microsoft, with HP, with 'partners', etc. Just total and constant disrespect for me as a user and whatever work I was trying to do in the former privacy of my own home office. Full of distractions and 'AI' and constant nags to send more data to more cloud subscriptions. It left me feeling incredibly gross. Even on the Pro editions of pre-11 versions I would spend a couple hours uninstalling junk and opting out of data collection. Lots of tedious setup!
With this one I just wiped the entire drive and installed Linux. Good riddance. It eats through battery now with the lid closed (with Windows it did seem to last a few weeks and still have some battery left). But at least I can use it now without COMPLETELY losing my mind. Except for one thing:
The trackpad was equally frustrating on both Windows and Linux. It always gives a nice tactile physical click, that's nice! But what's NOT nice is that on the software side, only a third of those clicks actually… click. At first I thought it had to do with where my fingers were so I tried making sure one was in the very bottom left but that didn't actually help. I finally just paired a bluetooth mouse to 'fix' that.
The keyboard is pretty nice. Took a bit of getting used to though, because with the number pad 'centered' on the keyboard isn't really the right position to start typing. You kind of have to sit off to the side because it's a big slab. I do like using the number pad so it's kinda a worthwhile tradeoff but.
Finally note that unlike a lot of PCs these days this is NOT a touch screen. And despite taking up the 17' room, it's still just a 1920x1080 resolution. So if you like the screen size just for size sake, or because it allows the number pad, or because maybe they can fit a bigger battery inside, it's not a bad display just feels like this is a big thing to carry for no particularly huge advantage.
